Jakarta, smoking has long been known to be bad for health, ranging from impotence, birth defects to heart disease and lung cancer. Nevertheless, the number of smokers in Indonesia continues to increase, especially among teenagers and students.
Whereas in adolescents, smoking can accelerate vascular damage. Damage to blood vessels is called atherosclerosis, which is the hardening and narrowing of blood vessels that lead to risk of stroke, heart attack and hypertension.
After becoming active smokers, the structure of the arteries with a brief to change shape. In a meeting of the European Society of Cardiology in Munich, Germany, researchers reveal findings that the narrowing of the arteries has been detected in young smokers aged 8-20 years.
